The Luton Direct Payments Support Service

The Disability Resource Centre provides an independent set up service through the Direct Payments Support Scheme, which operates throughout Luton. We can provide you with a range of support services. These include :

Initial Set Up Service covering the first 8 weeks 

Help to plan how you will manage the direct payment

  • Information on implications of being an employer - this covers all aspects of becoming an employer
  • Help to draw up job descriptions
  • Support to interview prospective employees
  • Provide support with paperwork 
  • Model Contracts of Employment - an employment contract has been drawn up by a solicitor and kept updated according to changes in legislation
  • Insurance advice
  • Help to identify personal assistant training needs. A comprehensive list of training providers if available for personal assistant training

Initial and Ongoing Support Service 

Support covering specific initial and ongoing aspects of support, including

  • Payroll service - payroll will ensure that the correct tax and national insurance is deducted
  • Access to an independent advocate if required - an independent advocate for adults with disabilities is available at the Disability Resource Centre
  • Access to peer support group - an opportunity to talk with people who are managing their own care using a direct payment
